Obituary of Derek Michael Ferguson Gibson
It is with deep sorrow that we share that Derek Michael Ferguson Gibson passed away suddenly at home on December 16th, 2024 at the age of 73. He is reunited with his beloved wife of 45 years, Carol Gibson, whom he missed dearly everyday. He is predeceased by his Mother (Hertha), Father (Lorne) and Brother (Tommy). Brother to Barbara and Lauren and brother-in-law to Frank. Doting pet parent to Dexter Gibson, pet Grandpa to Neo Gibson, and loving father to Andrew (Emily), Amanda, Elizabeth and Victoria Gibson.
He was a strong, loving, funny, caring father who had a passion for gardening (he grew amazing tomatoes and chili peppers), and deeply cared and loved his family and friends. In his younger years he was a commercial diver and maintained that love of diving his entire life. He worked at the L.C.B.O for 35 years and enjoyed his time there, as well as his time at the Friendship Festival.
He was a Freemason for 32 years, being initiated at Cambridge Lodge No. 728 November 27, 1980 and
served as its Worshipful Master in 1989 - 1990. He affiliated with Palmer Lodge No. 372, Fort Erie, in February of 2005.
He loved to travel and went to many wonderful places like Mexico, Thailand, Cuba and Europe. He had many wonderful experiences and stories, and he truly lived a beautiful, fulfilling life.
He enjoyed all of his friendships greatly, especially those with Massimo, Steve and John. Thank you all for being there for him. It meant the world to him and to his children.
We are grateful for the emergency services and medical professionals who cared for Derek, to the community of Fort Erie and to Benner Funeral Services for their kindness and help.
Benner Funeral Services have been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. The service will take place at Benner Funeral Services in Fort Erie on Friday, December 20th at 1:00 p.m. with interment following directly after.
