Shular : G. Richard "Rick" Our hearts are saddened and broken as we announce Rick's passing at the Douglas Memorial Hospital on Monday December 29, 2014 at the age of 68. Loving husband and best friend of Susan Elizabeth (nee Dobson). Beloved by his niece and goddaughter Sarah Dobson. Cherished brother in law of Craig Dobson (Jocelyne Chamberland). He will be sadly missed by his large extended family including Gail Lancaster, Valerie Beattie,Doug Ineson Jr., Blair Shular, Blaine Shular, Becky Logan, Dwayne Wisbey, Githa Kiefer, and the Lewis family, Martha, Mary, Warren and Matt. Predeceased by his parents George "Bud" and Patricia Shular, Susan's parents John and Dorothy Dobson and cousin Karen Johnannes. Rick retired from Pierce and Stevens Canada (Formerly part of Pratt and Lambert and now Sherwin Williams) after 30 years as the Material Sales Manager. Rick loved his family and friends, helping those less fortunate, time spent at the golf course and was a proud and active member of the Town of Fort Erie. He contributed to the quality of life through his service as a member of Town Council first elected in 2003 and again in 2006, 2010 and 2014 and served in all capacities at the Town. A Life member of 48 years and past president of the Fort Erie Kinsmen, Rick received the Hal Rogers Fellowship award and served as the Governor of District One in 1985. Rick was a Past Master of Palmer Lodge 372 A.F. & A.M., and served as Deputy Grand Master of Niagara District B in 2000. He continued his service with the Niagara District Shrine Club serving as the President in 2005. Rick was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 71, St. Paul's Anglican Church, a Past President of Kinsmen Minor Football and a past director with the YMCA and the Chamber of Commerce. Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie entrusted with arrangements. The family will receive friends on Thursday January 1st from 7-9 pm. During this time, services will be held by, the Kinsmen at 7:30, the Royal Canadian Legion at 7:45 and the Masonic Lodge at 8 pm. Visitation will continue after the services and again on Friday from 1-3 and 6-9. Funeral Services will be held at St. Paul's Anglican Church on Saturday at 12 o'clock. Interment to follow in McAffee Cemetery. If so desired, donations to C.O.P.E., Meals on Wheels or St. Paul's Anglican Church would be appreciated by the family.
