Obituary of Mary Andrews
MARY ANDREWS (Prystai), peacefully at Crescent Park Lodge in Fort Erie, with her husband Duffy at her side, on August 23, 2014.
Mary had a deep faith, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, with a great sense of style for a prairie girl from Saskatchewan. Always the feisty woman she was, Mary is survived by husband of almost 66 years Duffy Andrews, still residing in Fort Erie. Mary was the 3rd of eight children born to immigrant Ukrainian naturalized Canadian parents, Harold and Annie Prystai, formerly of Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Survived by daughter Candice (Brett) Smaill of Burnaby, B.C., and son Christopher (Marybeth) Andrews of Lowbanks, Ontario. Also survived by grandchildren Joseph (Sophia) Smaill of Surrey, B.C., Geneva (Alex) Smaill of Vancouver, B.C., Michael (Autumn) Smaill of Burnaby, B.C., Hayden (Ivy) Andrews of Toronto, Ontario. Mary was also great grandmother to Zoe Alethea Smaill and Penelope Mary Smaill, both of Surrey, B.C. Mary will be missed by sister Dolly Fredo of Burlington, Ontario and also by brother Harry Prystai of Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by brother George Prystai of Vernon, B.C., brother Peter Prystai of Edmonton, AB, brother Bill Prystai of Regina, SK, brother Metro Prystai of Yorkton, SK. Mary also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Yorkton, SK on September 4, 1921, Mary was only 12 days from her 93rd birthday before being called to Heaven. Family will receive friends and relatives at Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Road, Fort Erie, Ontario on Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 2 p.m. to4 p.m. and also 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Vigil prayers will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 310 Central Ave., Fort Erie, Ontario with private interment to follow. If so desired, donations made to Cystic Fibrosis Canada would be appreciated by her family.
