Obituary of Gordon Mackechuk

Gord passed away peacefully at ECMC hospital in Buffalo on Tuesday, Sept. 10th. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Felecia “Chickie” (nee Fredo) of Fort Erie. Proud father to his son John and daughter Krista (Shawn Knox), both of Toronto. Proud Grandpa of Braeden and Abigail. Also survived by his brother Richard (Faye), sisters Deborah and Elizabeth, and by sister-in-laws Carmella Fredo and Stephanie Fredo (wife of the late Tony Fredo). Predeceased by his sister Frances and parents Roman & Mary. Gord experienced a rich and diverse career, taking him from the prairies of Saskatchewan, to the rail yards of Hamilton, and eventually to the Ford Motor Company in Niagara Falls, where he retired in 1993 after 25 years with the company. He volunteered for many years at the local YMCA, in addition to being a driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. He was also a member of the local Kinsmen club. Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave. Fort Erie entrusted with arrangements. Visitation will be held on Sunday September 15th from 2-4 & 7-9. Funeral Mass to be celebrated at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church Monday morning at 11 o’clock. Donations may be made in Gord’s name to Toronto Sick Kids Hospital.
