Filipowicz, Robert Walter Sr. Bob passed away peacefully at Douglas Memorial Hospital surrounded by his entire family on May 18th, 2012. He is survived by the love of his life, Frances, to whom he was married to for 61 years. Cherished father of Bob (Rosemary), Greg (Madonna), Cindy (Bernie) Bougie and Michele. Loved by daughter-in-law Laurie. He will be sadly missed by his 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by sister Christine (Ed) Brackett. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1927. In 1950, he graduated from University at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a member of the wrestling and track and field teams. WW II Veteran and a proud member of the U.S. Coast Guard, Bob was stationed aboard the USS Duane. He moved to Fort Erie in 1958. He built 3 successful businesses; Lampka Furniture and Newtone Furniture in Buffalo, NY and Ridgeway Furniture in Ridgeway, Ontario, which is still being operated today by his children. He was awarded the Edwin B Spanjenthal "Man of the Year” in 1963, was past President of the Furniture Club of Western New York, serving for 2 terms, and was a past Commodore of the Parkway Sailing Club. Bob was an avid fisherman, a "Jack of all Trades” and will be sadly missed by his many friends and business associates. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday May 23rd at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church (310 Central Avenue, Fort Erie Ontario) at 11am.
