Linda, I am so sorry to hear of Kurts passing.
His contagious smile will be missed. The example he led, faithfully living his life in Christ, has encouraged all of us to look deep within our own hearts and do the same. As a parent, I appreciated so much Kurt's willingness to volunteer with the kids in the Awana program and Camp Bring A Friend at Redeemer. I could take comfort knowing my daughter Brittney and the other kids would be touched by a gentle, caring and loving man who was passionate about sharing what God has done in his life. I am thankful he is with Jesus. Linda, you and your family will continually be in my prayers during this time. May you sense ever so deeply the Lord's peace and comfort today and in the months ahead.

Words can never express the sadness I feel losing a friend, and fellow co-worker. We will never be able to replace Kurt - his great sense of humor, his dedication to a job well done and a smile that would light up our lives. We all watched his brave struggle over the past months and we were awed at his optimism, as he looked to his deep faith to comfort him, and give him hope. A genuine, wonderful man who I had the pleasure of working with for the past 6 years. I will never forget him. Rest in peace dear friend - I know you are rejoicing in heaven now.

Kurt volunteered for the last three years at Niagara Falls Community Outreach as our greeter on Wednesdays at noon. He would spend his lunch hour supervising the foyer and visiting with those in need who come to be fed. Kurt was well liked and made everyone feel at ease-always a big smile and a pat on the back. Kurt will be missed by all the volunteers and guests at Niagara Falls Community Outreach. He has touched the lives of many people.- Verna Craig/boardmember

I was deeply saddened to learn of Kurt's passing. Kurt was a man of great character and consistency; a steady temperament who above 'all' else put his athletes first. The profound loss to his immediate family is felt across his Special Olympics family, most assuredly by those he coached and inspired. Kurt was a 'go too' guy, no muss, no fuss but always reliable and trusted. On behalf of Special Olympics Ontario, my deepest personal condolences. My cousin Kurt was known in our family as "Hartmut", or "BraveHeart" and no man ever symbolized the qualities of that name more than my cousin. Nothing defined him more than what he continually gave with that great, big heart of his; whether it was to his community, to his church, very notably to Special Olympics and, of course, to his children, he emitted a special light and a warm love to all he would meet. I cannot describe my cousin Hartmut without evoking superlatives. He was such an inspiration, even last night as my family descended on Douglas Memorial Hospital to say our farewell to him, as we watched him struggle to draw breath, we were reminded of the nobility of this gentle warrior, this "BraveHeart", our cousin whom we loved; our Hartmut. This world is less for his loss and today, while our hearts are full with thoughts of our "BraveHeart", we are heavy with the burden of sadness...
