Obituary of Winifred Rankin
Winifred passed away on August 9, 2015 at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 86. Predeceased by her loving husband John, her sisters, Violet (Joe) Taylor, Gladys Mennie and brothers William (Dot) Mennie and Terrence Mennie. Winifred is survived by her devoted daughter Beverely, by her brother Eric (Maria) Mennie and sister Marion (Lannie) MacDonald, as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Win was a fun-loving, effervescent woman who loved to laugh. She was also a terrific dancer who left many in her dust, but was wonderfully matched by her husband. She loved a fine meal but was never much of a cook. Her one culinary highlight was her magnificent apple pie, something daughter Beverely has never mastered and will miss so much. She loved tennis (not playing of course, because she wasn't very athletic) but adored Roger Federer so much that Beverley is glad her father never lived to see the girlish crush she had. Well, to be honest, he would have just laughed since he'd been through it all before during the Tom Jones years.
A long-time employee of Kodak Canada, Winifred lived in Toronto, Brampton and Fort Erie after emigrating from Scotland in 1954. Sincere appreciation is extended to Drs. Kamatovic and Scher for their fine care and to all the kind staff at Port Colborne Hospital.
Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Avenue, Fort Erie entrusted with arrangements. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 14 at 1 pm with a memorial service to follow at 2 pm. If so desired, donations to CNIB would be appreciated.
