Obituary of Nora Crerar

Nora Crerar

In her 100th year, Nora (nee Doneff) passed away peacefully in Ottawa. Predeceased by husband Cameron (2012), she is survived by her son Howard, his wife Diane, their daughter Alyssa Belle, and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Nora was born in Fort Erie to John and Rebecca Doneff.  The third of five children, she was the last to survive, being pre-deceased by brother Alexander, sister Helen, brother Donald, and sister Diana.

Upon graduating from Fort Erie High School Nora worked as a secretary at Fleet Aircraft for 8 years.  Married in 1949, she and Cameron welcomed their son Howard to the world in 1953. In 1955 an opportunity arose for Cam to leave Fort Erie and work for Maple Leaf Services, retail provider for the Canadian Armed Forces, in Germany. After 3 years in Germany, the family returned to Toronto whereupon Nora began working as secretary to the vice president for Ginn and Company, a publisher of educational books.  Cameron and Nora lived in Toronto until 1992 when Cam retired.  They then moved to Niagara Falls to be close to Nora's family and stayed until they made one final move to Ottawa in 1998 to live near Howard, Diane, and their newly-born granddaughter.

On Saturday January 25, 2025 a visitation will take place from 11:00 until the time of the Funeral Service in the Benner Chapel at 12:30 PM. Following the service Nora will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Erie next to Cameron, having come full circle after living her life as a dedicated wife and loving mother.
