Obituary of Carol Johnson
Carol Ann (Storey) Johnson passed away peacefully at Niagara General Hospital on November 26, 2024 only days before her 91st birthday. Born December 3, 1933, and raised in Fort Erie by her parents, James and Margaret Storey and stepmother, Eva Storey, she graduated as a registered nurse and then worked in Detroit and Niagara Falls before coming home to Fort Erie.
Carol was the beloved wife of Donald Stirton Johnson who saved the last dance for her one night at Fort Erie Secondary School, winning the chance to walk her home. They were happily married for 69 years and had two children: Marisa (John) Jefkins of Etobicoke and James (Catherine) Johnson of Drayton.
Carol worked while Don completed his engineering degree; he claims that not only would he not have achieved it without her, but he likely would have starved to death if she hadn’t cooked for him too! Later in his career, Don was between jobs for three months when Carol once again stepped up and returned to work nursing, to provide for their growing family.
Her practical, no-nonsense professional demeanour belied the kindhearted, encouraging woman she was, always willing to do whatever she could to help others and to serve as a faithful Christ follower.
Carol is survived and lovingly remembered by her sister Joan of Buffalo NY, her grandchildren Brent (Letitia) Jefkins of Penetang, Amy (Luke) Walter of Mississauga, Craig Johnson of Hamilton, Jeanette (Manuel) Boehm of Drayton; and by great grandchildren Juilyanna Marquette Jefkins, Callahan Walter and Hanna Boehm.
