Emma Flaig

Obituary of Emma Flaig

Emma Flaig (nee Erion)

Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Flaig, passed away Oct 13, 2024 in Fort Erie, Ont. Emma was born in Scapa, AB, June 6, 1934; the 10th of 15 children. Emma helped care for her younger siblings on the farm, both as a young girl and then as an adult after their mother passed away. “Auntie Emma” was also a significant figure in the lives of many nieces and nephews, and she was energetic in helping keep the family connected through annual family gatherings. Emma moved to Calgary in the late 1960s, where she met Ken at Killarney Evangelical Church. They married July 1, 1971. Emma was an excellent homemaker, and a loving wife and mother. She also committed much time to volunteering, both in her church and the community. For 10 years Emma shared her love for children as she and Ken cared for foster children. She was a godly woman who found joy and hope in the promises of the Bible and who loved her family. She had the gift of hospitality, and many will remember her for her excellent homemade buns, hundreds (maybe thousands!) of which were baked for family gatherings!

In 2006, Emma and Ken moved to Ontario to be close to their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She loved her family, her grandchildren and her garden.
Emma is predeceased by her husband Ken, her brothers (Arnold, John, Emmanuel, Otto, Victor, Albert, and Roland) and sisters (Lena, Alvina, Mary, and Florence) as well as her parents (Emmanuel and Maria Erion). She is survived by her daughter Cindy, son-in-law Michael, and grandchildren Aidan, Keira and Michaela. She is also survived by her brothers Walter (Diane), Ernie, Leo (Shirley), and sister-in-law Shirley Benedict, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Maple Park Lodge for their care these past few years. A private family memorial will be held.
