Obituary of Eleonora Saraceno

It is with great sadness that the family of Eleonora Saraceno (née Davide) announce her passing. She passed away peacefully at the age of 93, on October 6, 2024. Eleonora, fondly referred to by those that knew her as Nora or Norina, was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed.

Born on July 26, 1931, in the small town of Cortale in Calabria, Italy, Eleonora immigrated to Canada aboard the MS Saturnia in mid October of 1958. She came with her husband, Francesco Saraceno, and their two sons Joseph and Sam. Eleonora and her family settled in Fort Erie, Ontario, where she developed a large community as a member of the Catholic Women’s League, the St. Michaels' Choir, and various volunteer jobs with the church and Italian-Canadian associations.

She kept very busy throughout her life in Canada. She was involved in the Catholic Church, she loved gardening, cooking and baking for her family, knitting, crocheting, and traveling to Italy. Eleonora was a spiritual person and a talented storyteller, often recounting stories of her early life in Italy to her family.

Eleonora was a doting grandmother known for her generosity and delicious home cooked recipes. She will be dearly missed by her son Joe, who was always close by her side in her final years of life, her three grandchildren, Johanne, Christine, and Justin Saraceno, and two great-grandchildren Amara and Rylan. Eleonora is predeceased by Francesco Saraceno, husband of 48 years and second husband John Maulucci, as well as her beloved son Sam.

Visitation will be held for family and friends at Benner Funeral Services in Fort Erie on Saturday October 12, from 10am-11:30am, followed by a mass at Saint Michael’s Church close by.
