Bill passed away on January 18th, 2024 at the Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie at the age of 80. Loving husband of Diane. Proud father of Michael (Sarah) and Robert as well as Stepfather to Christopher, David and Kevin. Cherished grandfather of Will, Jonah, Eva, Southern, Melanie and Matthew. Sadly missed by sister Sandi and brother David (Lauretta) and his extended family. Predeceased by his sister Magdalene.
Bill was a longtime educator in the Keswick/Sutton area and guided schools such as St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Bernadette as their Principal. He moved to Senator O’Connor College School teaching computer sciences before retiring in Fort Erie. His desire to keep active meant re-entry into the workforce at Walmart where he enjoyed both the patrons and staff. He loved travel and downtime at his getaway at Sherkston Shores where Diane and he would enjoy family and fun.
Bill’s diagnosis and decline while sudden was made somewhat easier by the compassionate health professionals around him. Dr. Scher, with the support of Para Med, St. Elizabeth Health, and the Douglas Memorial Palliative Care Unit ensured dignity and comfort were always at the forefront of Bill’s care.
Benner Funeral Services 1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie entrusted with arrangements. Family and friends will gather at St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Saturday January 27th from 11 am until the time of Funeral Services at noon. If wishing to honour Bill’s life with a memorial contribution, the family would ask you to consider Covenant House in Toronto or C.O.P.E in Fort Erie.
