Obituary of Edward Leroy Schooley

Schooley, Edward ‘Ed’ Leroy

April 9, 1942 – December 26, 2023

After a long 7 year battle with Dementia, Ed passed away unexpectedly on the evening of December 26, 2023 at Gilmore Lodge, Fort Erie.

He was a dedicated and loving husband to Linda, and an adoring father to his children and grandpa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his siblings, extended family, many friends and co-workers.

Ed was the definition of an outdoorsman. Whether he was on the lake fishing or in the woods hunting, you could always find him outside, even if that meant simply puttering around in the backyard. Ed enjoyed the simple things in life, like a cold beer on a hot day…. or any day for that matter. He was even affectionately called a ‘fireball connoisseur,’ for those times when beer wasn’t quite hitting the spot. Ed was a jokester, a side to him that made everyone around him belly laugh from his antics. To put it simply, Ed loved life, and lived it to the fullest. We will miss him every time we see a deer on the side of the road, we will miss his eye roll inducing jokes, we will miss his big bear hugs, but mostly we will simply miss him.

A very special thank you to the staff at Linhaven in St. Catharines and to the staff at Gilmore Lodge in Fort Erie. You all gave our husband and father years of compassion, understanding and dignity.

Benner Funeral Services entrusted with arrangements. Cremation has taken place and at Ed’s request, a private celebration will be held at a later date.

If desired, donations in Ed’s Memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara Region.
