It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eleanor Barnes (Miss Ellie).
She was predeceased by the love of her life Bill Barnes, her son Bob Barker (Dodie), daughter in law Shari Harper (Gord) and her brother and sister in law Doug and Betty Hallard.
She is missed dearly by her sister Sharon (David) Bulmer. son Gord Barker, stepson Rick (Pam) Barnes and stepdaughter Gail Barnes as well as her grandchildren Matthew, Kasey, Ella, Richie (Ashley) and Tawnya (Charlie) and her great grandchildren Olivia, Arianna, Kaleb, Mason and Connor.
Miss Ellie began her life's journey in Bracebridge Ontario, spending her formative years in southwestern Ontario before finally settling in Fort Erie to raise a family and form lifelong friendships. Her longest and dearest friend Joyce Hilliker remained in close contact with her until the end.
Later in life she discovered travel, enjoying England, Spain, sunny vacation destinations and crossing this beautiful country of ours. She also discovered her love of service, as a legion member for many years and volunteering with many organizations including the Canadian Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, The Douglas Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and St. Pauls Anglican Church Womens Auxiliary to name a few.
A special thank you to Dr. Scher for his loving care and friends Cheryl Allen and Shirley Norman for their round the clock care as she lived out her last weeks.
Service is entrusted to Benner Funeral Services. Ellie's Memorial Service will take place at St. Pauls Anglican Church on Thursday, January 4th, 2024 at 11 a.m.
Donations in memory of Ellie may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St Pauls Anglican Church or the Douglas Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
