Obituary of Elroy William Seebach

After a life well lived, Elroy Seebach passed away peacefully in his 90th year with his family by his side at Douglas Memorial Hospital, on August 20, 2023.

Elroy is survived by his son Kenneth; his sister Carol Shemko (Al); his brother Ron (Joan), and Sister-in-Law Margaret Seebach as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their children. He is preceded in death by his wife Marjorie (nee Yarrow), Brothers Kenneth and Calvin, Sister-in-Law Alice, parents Carl and Louisa, and his niece Angie and nephew Robert.

Elroy was born in Fort Erie and remained a proud lifelong resident of his community. He worked for and retired from Horton CBI as a Purchasing Agent.

He was a great family man and a loving father. His sense of humour and positive outlook will be remembered by his family, a close knit family, who have held numerous family reunions and picnics throughout the years.

Elroy was a social, active man who was deeply involved in his community, having served as a town alderman and public school trustee. He was proud to be a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 71 in Fort Erie. He served the Legion for many years, whether on the executive, working bingos, or in other capacities. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and playing poker with his buddies. He and Marjorie were fond of couples dinners and parties with friends, many of whom have predeceased them. He was a committed lifelong member of the United Church of Canada, and attended at Central Avenue until its closure.

Up to the end he was known to insist on receiving the weekly local flyers to review sales and to pick up the best deals on groceries, especially cookies, cakes and candy. From his apartment balcony view, he continued to oversee the activities at the Legion, traffic on the Peace Bridge, and the birds and squirrels. However, he did not like sandflies or any other insects that attempted to invade his space and most often they were promptly dealt with.

To honour his wishes, a private family funeral and burial at McAffee Cemetery, Fort Erie, will be held. Benner Funeral Services entrusted with private arrangements.

The family is would like to thank the staff of the Niagara Health System including at the Greater Niagara General Hospital Emergency Department, Douglas Memorial Hospital Palliative Care, and Dr. Scher for their compassion and care.

Donations in his honour may be sent to the Royal Canadian Legion Dominion Command Poppy Trust Fund or the Canadian Wildlife Federation.
