Dorothy, my deepest condolences to you and the family. Jim is now out of pain. No one can ever take your memories away of a long beautiful marriage. I’ll never forget the “bug” at the campground

Dear Dorothy and the Heron family. So sad to hear of Jim’s passing. I worked with Jim for 13 years and have many memories as Jim was an engaging person who always spoke highly of his family. Such a dedicated hard worker who although he was tough was great to deal with. After i resigned for a better opportunity Jim didn’t hesitate to drive me home after I handed in my car. Rest in peace my friend!!!

I accepted a job with Royal Bank in 1971 which took me to Fort Erie for training. Here I met Dorothy who introduced me to Jim and their young daughter Michelle. Because Jim and I both enjoyed fishing he proudly introduced me to the Niagara area where we fished for perch, bass, pickerel and smelts. These trips took us to the Niagara River, Lake Erie and Lake Nipissing which led to many fish fries at their residence. Jim had a good sense of humour and never missed an opportunity to catch you off guard with something funny. My last discussion with Jim was about a week before he made his last trip to the hospital. Although very unwell, he was still positive and ready to laugh. He told me that he had a good life and all he wanted was for his friends and family to recall the good times. Despite the fact that I stayed in Fort Erie less than one year, we forged a lifelong friendship lasting 52 years. Thank you Jim, for your friendship. Your children and your grand children are your legacy. Pauline and I pass on our condolences to Dorothy, Michelle, Scott and their families.

So very sorry. Jim was bigger than life and if you ever wanted a friend in your corner I can't imagine anyone better. Everything in it's day. He'll leave a big hole behind but so many memories.

The world has lost a strong, caring man who was always there when you needed him the most. He was a good neighbor to my parents and friend. He will be missed dearly, but never forgotten. May your days be less heavy Dorothy and filled with loving memories that only bring smiles and tears of joy. May he rest in peace.

My heart goes out to you Dorothy. Those who fall asleep in death have no idea what pain they leave behind. Death really is an enemy inflicting sorrow of gargantuan proportions.
One day it will be done away with, but for now we need endurance, and the close comfort of family and friends.
Jim will be fondly remembered by many, and I’m sure that his endearing traits live on in his offspring. Wonderful things like empathy, generosity, kindness, and humour.
It’s a privilege to be part of your circle of acquaintances.
Eva Tuersley.

I was lucky enough to have Jim my dear cousin-brother in my life since day one.
We grew up together in the same household with my three other brothers until Jim was entering his young adult years and he decided after meeting Dorothy to relocate to Fort Erie.
Even though there was a 9 year age difference Jim always looked out for me . He was so kind to me taking me on the greatest adventures, many fishing trips with our dog, winter skating and sledding at the biggest hills in our neighborhood park as well as drive in movies with his friends. Life was good for me because I had Jim in it.
As we grew older despite the physical distance between us we always managed to keep connected. His kindness continued to my own children taking the time fishing and boating with the boys whenever we were able to visit with him.
Jim was a cousin by blood but a friend by choice. I am so grateful we were able to continue this lifelong friendship right till the end.
The last week or so of Jims’ dreadful fight against his illness didn’t diminish who he was or defeat his spirit. It was truly amazing. I am so grateful for our many great conversations reminiscing about the old days. They will not be forgotten.
You may be gone but you have left some beautiful memories Jim and you will live on in my heart forever. Carol
