Dear Jimmy and Susan: I can see your Mom’s radiant smile and hear her laugh like it was yesterday. When she called to speak with my Mom, she always took time to ask me about myself. I felt like I was talking to a friend rather than one of Mom’s friends. She kind of reminded me of Jackie Onassis - intelligent, poised, elegant. I found her inspiring as a working Mom, and as a talented artist. My thoughts are with you.

Auntie Margaret was my godmother too. I think our most unforgettable moment was when she rescued me from the neighbors' chicken coup. It was something she always laughed at when we got together. Something she would never let me forget.
Although we haven't stayed in touch very much over the years, her passing is still a great loss. Our condolences to Jim, Sue and the rest of the family.
Love,
David and Nadine Schmidt
And the rest of the Schmidt Clan.

I already miss my godmother! Auntie Margie has always been a constant in my life - showing loving interest in whatever I was doing and never forgetting a birthday. Margie and my mother Marilyn showed me what life long friendship is - supporting each other through everything, finding the silly in things and always being able to make each other laugh. My love and condolences to Susie and Jim and their families - the Scotts share your loss - and I’m sure Jim and AB are toasting Margie with a rum & coke. Cheers!

I met Margaret almost forty years ago when I applied for a part time assistant job in the engineering department at Niagara Parks Commission. HR phoned to tell me I met the qualifications, but I had to be interviewed by the secretary of the department.
When I went for the interview, this perfectly coiffed, very smartly dressed lady, held a pad on which were notes and professional questions she was supposed to ask. But Margaret never asked any of their questions. Her first statement was "oh, I love your sweater, it's so unusual and looks handmade, did you knit it?". I told her that I had and she said " you must be artistic, I paint for a hobby, and I love it". I told her I also painted as a hobby, and we sat and discussed oil vs acrylic paints rather than interview questions. She then said "I can tell your sweater took time and patience, which you will need patience to work here. Also I'm probably not as good at drawing as you, so I can get your help when I'm stuck. When can you start?"
That was Margaret's interview technique, and also the start of a lifelong friendship. Later she told me she didn't need to ask the questions, because she knew immediately we'd "fit". We sure did.
We kept that strong friendship, even after I was transferred to other departments, and still met for lunch, even after retirement, and I'd drop in and visit Margaret and Jim if I was down Fort Erie way. We visited each other now and then until she moved to Burlington to be near her family.
Margaret was a wonderful down to earth friend, with a great sense of humour, an infectious laugh, a twinkle in her eye, and kindness in her heart. Her family was everything to her and they will miss her greatly. Joan Green, Niagara Falls

My entire family sends condolences to the extended family of Auntie Marg. She quite literally has been a presence and a guiding light throughout my life, starting from the day she became my godmother in 1945.
As a cheerful, supportive and loving person, she has shown by example that deeds, not grand gestures, matter most in this superficial world. We are among the many who are blessed to have had Marg -- and Jim -- in our lives.
God bless you all as you follow the path she has shown you.
