Obituary of Joseph Giliforte

Giliforte, Joseph Achille

January 17, 1940 – September 20, 2021

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, at home on September 20, 2021. He is survived by his loving sons’ Lance, Layne (Dianna), Jason and Jarret (Linda) and will be missed by Linda Giliforte. He was the proud grandpa of Caitlin, Brittany, Larissa, Joseph, Payton, Carson and Ava. He is now reunited with his parents and his siblings, Peter, Victor, Angelo and MaryJo.

Joe was an owner and trainer at the Historic Fort Erie Race Track, a true passion of his; he could always be found at the local Fort Erie Race Track.  He was truly a people person and enjoyed socializing and getting to know everyone he met. The saying ‘he would give you the shirt off his back,’ perfectly describes the man our father was; kind, selfless and generous.  Aside from spending much of his time at the race track, Joe loved playing cards and enjoyed a good cup of Timmies coffee… any excuse to tell stories and socialize. Above all, Joe was a family man that loved nothing more than spending quality time with those he cherished.

Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation being held at Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave. Fort Erie, on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 4 – 7pm. A Memorial Service will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel at 7pm. Capacity limits are in effect throughout the visitation time and space is limited for the chapel service. Vaccine passports are not required, but masks must be worn at all times. Joe will be laid to rest with his family in Buffalo at a later time.
