Dear Cindy, Michele, Greg and Bob,
I was very sad to hear of the passing away of your dear mother. She had such a way of welcoming me with her beautiful, warm smile and a friendly greeting every time I visited your home. Mrs. Filipowicz was a great friend and neighbour to our family, and an obviously devoted mom to you all. Sincere condolences, love and prayers to you and your families. Susan (Smith) Laidlaw xox

Dear Filipowicz Family and Friends,
I’m sending condolences on your loss of Frances Filipowicz, who was so loving, kind, and generous. Her loss revives memories. My wife, Zosia and I last visited and had an enjoyable reunion with Frances at the home of Greg and Madonna Filipowicz and children in Fort Erie during summer 2012.
My recollections today, at age 85, of Frances are of a gracious and warm mother and role model for her children (and for all who knew her). Florence was magnificent. It was always a pleasure to be with her and husband Bob, when I was a teenager. I remember seeing Frances typically with a happy and smiling face. Obviously, she must have endured moments of concern or sadness, but I don’t remember any occasion where her energy or attitude were negative. Frances was a naturally, positive person.
I recall when cousin Bob, before marrying Frances, and my brother Ed occasionally included me for a few hours of afternoon sailing from Point Abino, where Bob harbored his sail boat. I was probably seven years younger than Ed and perhaps nine younger than Bob, so they were thoughtful to include me, a mischievous adolescent.
After Frances and Bob married in 1951, I was pleased to be with them at various and numerous gatherings, parties, weddings, and dinners. These events included Filipowicz, Opatovsky, Kolipinski, and other families. I moved from Buffalo to Miami, Florida in 1959. That ended most family gatherings in Buffalo for me. However, I had the opportunity to host Bob and Frances in Miami once or twice during their vacations in Florida. As a research scientist in the Everglades, I remember taking Bob and Uncle Joe Lamka on an exploratory airboat trip into Shark River Slough. We exited the airboat barefoot and waded through sawgrass and walked into a small hardwood forest in the Everglades. Fortunately, we didn’t encounter any water moccasins, biting water beetles, leeches, or alligators. (We did see several gators from the airboat. I think Frances did not join us on that exciting trip, for some reason.
Again, and in summary, I share your sadness in the passing of Frances. She was a Saint in many ways and her soul is in heaven. Florence and Bob are in my heart and mind with loving memories for whatever time remains for me.

Too many memories to share just one. Coming to your house on the boat across the river, cocktail parties at my parents house, my 16th birthday in Mexico, fishing on the Niagara with your dad, smuggling Mugsy, Pepper’s pup across the boarder, Cindy babysitting us while the parents went out, Singing parties with Uncle Stanley conducting. Your mom was a great lady. She lived her life with grace, kindness and love. Like you she touched my life as my godmother and I will always appreciate that extra love and attention she gave me over the years. I am so glad you could be with her in her final moments. I know she felt your love surrounding her.
May your memories of her life well lived bring you comfort and know how proud she was of each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wish I could be with you all but know you are in my thoughts and prayer.....Love Mary Ann & George
