My sincere condolences to Ethel and the Benner Family. I was a Station #3 firefighter back in the early 1990s. Phil was always a gentleman and had a great sense of humour. I was helping the East Bertie Firefighters Association research our history and at that time Phil was one of the few surviving original members. I loved hearing his stories of selling cinder blocks to the community to help build the firehall in 1955.

Mrs Benner and the entire Benner Family
An amazing man has been called home. Phil always had the time to stop and chat. Many memories were shared by my parents during the East Bertie FireHall dances and Jamborees. May he rest in peace, and your memories help you through these difficult times.

Mrs. Benner, I am so sorry that you have had to say goodbye for now to your husband, your soulmate, the love of your life.
I love you and the girls and Chad send their love too.
We were all very sad to hear of Mr. Benner's passing on.
Brian, Peter, Becky and family thank you for sharing your wonderful father with us. Our time with him will always be cherished.
The Benner family, the Fort Erie Firefighters, Fort Erie and all of those who have met and been touch by Mr. Benner have had to say goodbye to a kind, gentle, understanding, funny, VERY funny, energetic, encouraging, family member and friend.
He gave his unwavering support. I will always cherish my time with him and his quick witted, intelligent, energetic, encouraging, gentle, kind soul.
Being a small family of 4 (my dad, mom, sister and I) when my sister introduced me to Dave and his two young daughters Jessica and Katie, I immediately thought I hit the jackpot. 3 more amazing people in my life. Dave, Jessica. Katie and Nicholas was born were the people that would change my life.
Mr and Mrs. Benner were so kind, welcoming, salt of the earth people. They were immediately My People.
One of the Many things that struck me when I first met Mr. Benner was that he seemed genuinely excited to see and meet me. Turns out from that day forward he would greet me and my family with same way with excitement, sparkle in his eyes and big smile.
It gives me great comfort that Mr. Benner will be reuniting with Katie, Dave and Carrie, and all the family and friends that have gone on before him.
My love to all of you.

Phil was a man who made everyone he knew feel like family. I always felt like an adjunct part of the Benner clan and cherished the moments we shared. I am thankful we had that time together at GNGH the last time you were in hospital. A true gentleman, a follower of Christ, an exceptional husband and father and one of Fort Erie's best sons. You will be greatly missed but you leave a legacy of love and kindness through Ethel, your children and the generations. Your race has finished. Well done, good and faithful servant.
