Obituary of Walter Henry Townsend

Passed away peacefully with family at Valley Park Lodge at the age of 88. Walter was predeceased by his loving wife Alice (1978) Walter will be missed by his children Walter Townsend Jr., Linda Tardiff, and especially missed by his youngest son Robert Townsend (Brenda) whom he shared a special bond. He will be missed by his grandchildren Natalie (Tyler) Meggen, Shawn, Tina and Walter III and his many great grandchildren. Walter is predeceased by his parents, Teresa and Fred and brother Fred (Violet). He was a special uncle to Kathy, Kenny, Charlene, and Marlene. Walter moved to Niagara with his wife from Montreal, Quebec, built their family and business. He started the pony rides with his father and brother when he was 10 years old and later spent many years in Crystal Beach Park and later owned a Petting Farm on Baker Road. Walter travelled with his Pony rides and Pig races until he was in his 80th year. He was known for “Here come the ponies!” A special thank you to Valley Park and Garrison Place for making his last years comfortable. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 5-8pm at Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave. Fort Erie. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 21,2019, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Snyder ON. Burial to follow in the St. Joseph's Catholic Churchyard cemetery. If desired, memorial donations in Walter's Memory may be made to the Last Chance Horse and Pony Rescue, the Fort Erie SPCA or a charity of your choosing.
