Shearing, Shirley Elsie (Lyon)

August 20, 1927 – February 8, 2024

Passed away peacefully at Gilmore Lodge at the age of 96, with family by her side. Loving wife of the late Jim Shearing (2007). Predeceased by her daughter Susan Moerland (1977) and sister Dorothy Randahl (2014). Cherished mother to Sharon (John) Coopman, Patricia (Alan) Annett, Pamela (Dan) Smith, Janice Shearing and Jeanne Shearing (Neil MacFayden). Lovingly remembered by brother-in-law Fred Shearing. Born and raised in Fort Erie, she attended Rose Seaton Public School and Fort Erie High School. Employed as a secretary and switch board operator at Horton CBI up until her marriage. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #230 in Ridgeway, held post of secretary and was honoured to carry the national flag during Remembrance Day ceremonies. She received a recognition pin for 50 years of service. She enjoyed needle point, bowling, darts, ladies’ cards parties, gardening and camping. She won first prize in the baking contest for our neighbourhood Centennial Celebration. Gramma Shirley was blessed with and will be dearly missed by 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Che for his years of care and home visits. A special thank you to Dr. Spencer and the staff at Gilmore Lodge for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held on Friday March 22 from 12:00 until the time of the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM in the Benner Chapel. Benner Funeral Services entrusted with arrangements.
