Fred Manzo
MANZO, Ferdinando (Fred) - Passed away suddenly on January 22, 2019 at the age of 71. Loving husband to Maria Manzo (nee Frumusa). Devoted father to Tony and Alfonso (Gina). Cherished grandfather to Anthony, Michael, and Veronica; and great-grandfather to Madison. He will be greatly missed by his sister, Rose Padne & Victor. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Maddalena Manzo; and brother, Vincent Manzo. Fred always loved spending time with his family and will be remembered as a great hair stylist - winning many trophies in his younger years in Toronto. Benner Funeral Services (1105 Benner Ave, Fort Erie) has been entrusted with arrangements. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church (310 Central Ave., Fort Erie) on Friday, January 25th, 2019 at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Larry Goring
Larry Goring Ret. MTP S/Sgt Larry Goring William (Larry) Lawrence Goring passed away on January 17, 2019 peacefully in his 78th year after a brief battle with cancer. Wife Diane and his children Todd and Tracey (John) were at his side. Gramps will be missed by Reece, Mitchell, Nick, Luke, Karyssa and Gage. Born in Barrie, he was rasied in and lived most of his life in Cooksville. He devoted over 31 years of service to the Metropolitan Toronto Police force and then enjoyed over 24 years of retirement at the cottage near Bracebridge, the winter home in Lakeland, Florida and in the Blackcreek Retirement Community in Stevensville, Ontario. Larry travelled the world with Diane, loved baseball, hockey, trivia and visits from Chevy. Thanks to the amazing nursing staff at the Douglas Memorial Palliative Care unit in Fort Erie. A special thank you to Dr. Kim Scher for the care and attention he pays to each patient and their family. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Douglas Memorial Palliative Care unit through the Niagara Health Foundation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life service will be held at a future date.
Raymond Robidoux
ROBIDOUX, Joseph "Raymond" Passed away peacefully the morning of Friday, January 18, 2019 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of the late Roberta Robidoux. Loving father of Gary (Sandy Kitchen) and Mark Robidoux. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Michael, Tracy Lynn (James) Knots, and Craig Kitchen; as well as his great-grandchildren, Christopher, Michael, and Katelynn. Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie has been entrusted with arrangements. In accordance with Raymonds's wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial donations to the Brain Injury Society would be appreciated by the family.
Yang Zhao
Zhao : Yang Huai Passed away surrounded by his family at the Douglas Memorial Hospital on Thursday January 10, 2019 at the age of 80. Husband of Mu Jin Mai Zhao. Father to Xuan Qi Tim Zhao (wife Zhi Ping Pam Zhang), Lian Xiang Zhao, Kelly Lai (husband Lorne Lai) and Julie Ruan (husband Jason Ruan). He will be missed by grandsons Wei Hua Zhao, Oscar Ruan, Justin Zhao, Wei Sheng Zhao (wife Lilly Wang), granddaughters Bao Hong Zhao (husband Chao Shan Liang), Bao Hua Zhao, Jessica Lai and Erica Zhao. Survived by great grandchildren Shu Yi Liang, Xin Yi Ruan, Jia Jie Zh ao, Jia Xin Zhao, Zi Yue Zhao and Zi Chu Zhao. Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie entrusted with arrangements. The family will receive friends on Sunday January 20th from 9-11 am and from 5-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel on Monday afternoon at 1 PM. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
Joseph Nagy
Joseph M. Nagy - Department of National Defence, 1949 - 1993. Passed away in his home on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife, Freda (Barnes) Nagy after 62 years of marriage. Also predeceased by his son Perry (Ann) Nagy of Ridgeway, ON. Father of Joan Denton (Frank) of Hamilton, ON and Terry (Patt) of White Rock B.C. Remembered fondly by five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Nagy of Regina, SK and sister Emma (George) Tuttosi; survived by his brothers Alexander of Smith Falls, ON, Eugene (Verna) of Prairie River, SK and sister Mary (Ernie) Wootton of Brockville, ON. Joe spent many happy and satisfying years working with fellow and military civilian members in DND Chilliwack, BC, Halifax, NS, Whitehorse, YT, Victoria, BC, Montreal, PQ, Toronto and Ottawa. He also served Two Tours with the UN in the Middle East. He was a graduate of UBC and Concordia and instilled the importance of education into his children and grandchildren. Wherever he was, he regarded that place as his home, but always returned to his first home area in SK for visits with near relatives. Jackie Craig
CRAIG, Jacqueline Irene "Jackie" - passed away peacefully, at the Douglas Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, January 6, 2019 in her 86th year. Beloved wife of Jack for 65 years. Loving mother of Pennie and Pam (Jim). Cherished grandmother of Jenna, Josh, Shawn (Melissa), Steve (Crystal), Shayne (Liz) and Scott and great grandmother of Logan, Westin and Morgan. She will be lovingly remembered by her 8 sisters, 3 brothers and many nieces and nephews. Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie entrusted with Arrangements. A service to celebrate her life will be held in the Benner Chapel on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11 o'clock. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Douglas Memorial Hospital Auxillary.
Thomas Hay Bell
BELL, THOMAS HAY - Born on June 17, 1932 in Fort Erie and peacefully passed away on January 5, 2019 in Niagara Falls. Long-time friend to Dona Thyret, Dear father of Carol (and the late Larry) Briggs, Karen (Larry) Brydges, Tom Jr. and Alan (Cheryl). Cherished grandfather to nine grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Thomas was an engineer and retired from the Niagara Region and the Railroads. He was also a volunteer Fireman. Cremation has taken place and a family interment will take place at a later time. In memory of Thomas, those who wish may donate to the Fort Erie SPCA.
Robert (Rob) Atkin
ATKIN, Robert - It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Robert (Rob) James Atkin at the age of 65, on December 23, 2018. Adoring husband to Shelley Atkin, devoted father to Chelsey (Glenn), Cody (Devereaux), Julie. Proud Papa / Grandpa to Kayne, Marley, Braden. Cherished son to Betty Atkin (Harry), loved son-in-law to Barbara Abrams, brother-in-law to Rick (Angela), Matthew (Karin), and brother to Tom (Darlene). Loved by his nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held January 3, 2019, 12pm - 4pm at Benners Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Avenue Fort Erie. All invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life at 4:30pm following the visitation at the Royal Canadian Legion, 130 Garrison Road, Fort Erie. Rob was an arborist for the Niagara Parks Commission for 36 years. He was President of OPSEU Local 217 for 13 years. Rob retired at 54 to take care of his park he named Atkin Acres. He loved nature, wildlife and everything outdoors, especially his trees. His 2 favorite being his Oak Tree and Red Maple his little girl Chelsey planted for him. Donation in lieu of flowers to the ALS Society of Canada or plant a tree in memory of Rob, somewhere you love to be.
