Obituary of Hedy Surtel

Surtel: Hedwig "Hedy" Hedy passed away peacefully on Saturday November 5th, 2016 at the age of 82. Beloved wife of the late Sid. Loving mother of Marie (Evan) McLucas, Joe (Sue) Surtel, Liz Surtel and Mike (Sharon) Surtel. Cherished grandmother of Myles, Bria, Kylee, Michael, Christopher, Jonathan, Jacqui and Ross and proud great grandmother of Ethan. Sadly missed sister of Stella, Colette, Liz, Mary and Joe. Predeceased by siblings Theresa, Tom and Ziggy. Hedy graduated St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing and worked at Toronto St. Joseph's Hospital. She was an active and respected member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church and the CWL. She volunteered with the Douglas Memorial Auxiliary Tuck Shop, Fort Erie Horticultural Society, Casa El Norte and many Blood Donor Clinics. She will be remembered for her love of family, her caring and selfless nature. Benner Funeral Services, 1105 Benner Ave., Fort Erie entrusted with arrangements. A Mass to celebrate Hedy's life will be celebrated at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church on Saturday November 19th at 1130 am. A reception will follow at Bridgewater Golf Course. If so desired, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to the staff at Gilmore Lodge for the care and compassion.
