Obituary of William Phillip Payne

We are very sad to announce the death of William Phillip Payne at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie on January 2, 2016. Bill was born in Toronto on September 25, 1936. He had interesting and challenging careers as an auto mechanic and police officer in Toronto and as a hospital Vice President in Niagara Falls, but he probably got the most enjoyment in his retirement, owning a number of thoroughbreds which he raced at the Fort Erie Race Track. Of course this was far from financially rewarding, especially since he made it his mission to find good homes for his retired horses, even buying back his beloved Storm Regent at the end of his racing days. Bill loved and was loved by his wife, Bev Goodman, his daughter Dr. Lisa Rojkjaer, his son Jon Payne, and Jon's wife, Rita Payne. He adored his grandchildren, Rose Rojkjaer, Virginia Payne and Matthew Payne. He was so happy to be part of Bev's family as well. He enjoyed the devoted companionship of his dogs, C.J. and Pip. Thank you to the many caregivers over the last eight months at the Juravinski Centre, Walker Family Cancer Centre, Greater Niagara General and Douglas Memorial Hospital, as well as staff of the CCAC and Saint Elizabeth Health Care. Special thanks to his friend and family physician for many years, Dr. Mel Krass. Private family arrangements. If so inclined, please consider a donation in Bill's memory to a charitable cause that has special meaning for you.
