Obituary of Joyce Robley

Mary Joyce Robley began her journey to the Spirit World on January 22, 2026, at Douglas Memorial Hospital.

Iewennahshón:ni ne onkwa’nikòn:ra — her spirit now walks the path of the ancestors.

Joyce was born in Kahnawake, Quebec, the land of her people, where her roots run deep and where her spirit will always remain.

Onkwehonwe’neha tsi ionterihwa’tshera’ne — she carried the strength and teachings of her people.

She will be remembered and missed by many family members and community who carry her love, wisdom, and kindness forward.

Skén:nen, skennen’kó:wa (peace, great peace) is what she brought into the lives of those around her.

Joyce is lovingly remembered by her family; Randy, Lisa (Kwetii͞o) Peterson, Diane, Joel, Karina Peterson, Sandra Diabo, and Allison Cross and Rosemary Montour (family).

She was a devoted mother (Ista) to her daughter Shelly (Jeff) McGregor, and a cherished aunt to her niece — lovingly known as “the favourite” — Karen (Dave) Brandon (Cassie) and Ty.

Joyce’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, who were the light of her life and the continuation of her legacy; Jonathon McGregor (Samantha), Ariel, Lincoln, Maverick, Dominik, Allison McGregor (Andrew), Eric, Katlyn, and Alex.

Ne ionkwanikòn:ra ne tsi nikahontí:io — they are her living spirit.

She is survived by her brothers Albert Latour and Brian Latour, and predeceased by her parents William and Mary and sister Donna and brother Jimmy  along with many nieces, nephews  and friends, especially Genette who will remember her stories, laughter, and the love she shared so freely.

Cremation has taken place. Benner Funeral Services has been entrusted with arrangements. A private family service will be held at a future date.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Douglas Memorial Hospital for their care, along with her nurse Elizabeth for showing compassion and respect to Joyce during her final days.

As Joyce continues her journey, her spirit remains with her family, her community, and the land she came from.

Iakoiánere ne rotiianerén:ta — her life has become her legacy.

Nia:wen’kó:wa — great thanks to all who walk beside the family during this time.
