Charles George Pedley

A Life Well Lived

Nov 18, 1943 - Dec 9, 2025

Charles Pedley, age 82, of Fonthill, passed away peacefully at Gilmore Lodge in Fort Erie, Ontario on December 9th. The joyful homecoming of seeing his Savior was evident on his face as he departed this life for the next.

Charles was born in Hearst, Ontario to Charles Wesley Pedley and Lilian Corinne (Wallingford) Pedley. As a boy, Charles’ family moved often, giving him experiences in various locations all over Ontario. Charles met his wife, Ellen while attending the Teachers College in London, Ontario, and eventually furthered his education to achieve his Bachelors and Masters Degrees. He is fondly remembered by former students throughout the region as “Mr. Pedley,” an upper elementary school teacher known for his captivating science lessons, his puns, and “corny” jokes.

Charles married Ellen Kathleen (Noake) of Ridgeway, Ontario in August 1965, and they were blessed with two daughters, Kathleen Ann (June 1966) and Rebecca Ellen (October 1972), while living and teaching in Wainfleet, Ontario. They were happily married for 55 years. Charles and Ellen enjoyed serving together in various leadership capacities, first at Port Colborne Brethren in Christ Church, and then at Faith Welland (formerly Faith Tabernacle) for many years. Their love and care to pass on their faith to others, especially younger people, has left a lasting impact that continues on today.

Always an adventurer, Charles led his wife and their daughters Ann and Rebecca on many family trips to places like Glacier National Park, Manitoulin Island, Algonquin and The Blue Ridge Mountains. Charles enjoyed canoeing, sailing, hiking, and photography, as well as technology and computers. He was also an author, who wrote blogs on several subjects including the Wallingford family heritage, clean humor, current issues, and sharing his love of education. He also wrote and published a book called Joyful Mourning…a True Love Story, to help others learn to process their grief.

After retiring from teaching, Charles went on to work on his small businesses in computers, helping churches with their projection and furniture sales, and even serving as a Financial Advisor for a few years. Eventually, he missed his students, and found a way to work in education again, this time as a small bus driver where he impacted several young lives, through his caring ways.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Ellen (December 2020). He is survived by his daughters, Ann (Jon Guinn) of Massachusetts and Rebecca (Scott Laird) of Delevan, NY, by their five grandsons; Nathanael Guinn, Andrew Guinn, Ian Laird, MacGregor Laird, and Nathan Laird, and his sister Sylvia (Ted Wiens) of Virgil, Ontario.

A Memorial Service will be planned for the summer, when family and friends can gather together to celebrate a life well lived.

The entire Pedley family would like to thank the community of church family, friends, personal care and medical staff who stepped forward to lovingly see them through the past few, very challenging years of great losses, declining physical and cognitive health. We are eternally grateful.
