Obituary of John Henning

HENNING, John Spencer

With heavy hearts, and many memories we announce the passing of John Spencer Henning, who left us on October 22, 2025. Born in Ottawa on September 8, 1946. At 2 he moved to Toronto and at the age of 8, John moved to Fort Erie, where he grew up with a sharp mind, an even sharper wit, and sense of humour—often with a dose of sarcasm “It looks like the fecal matter has finally hit the oscillator.”
John was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Lillian Henning, and his brother Walter (Patricia) Henning. He will be dearly missed by his partner of over 25 years, Joyce Harris, and his two daughters, Breanne (Tony) Maulucci and Asheley Elizabeth (Abe) Henning, who didn’t fall too far from the tree. He was endlessly proud of his grandchildren, Avrey and Anthony Maulucci.
John will also be missed by his siblings George (Joanne) Henning, David (Janice) Henning, Lillian (Terry) Wallace and Sharon Henning as well as his many nieces and nephews.
A proud and lifelong learner, John graduated with his CA and CMA Honours, later becoming a CPA Life Member. He valued education and hard work, and never stopped finding ways to challenge himself. John and Joyce shared a love of travel, exploring much of the world over the past 25 years. They especially cherished their time in Florida with friends.
John found joy in working with his hands: heavily renovating his own home and restoring his loved cars: 1965 Impala Convertible with the famous 409 engine;1968 Chevelle SS Convertible, 1962 MGA, and a 1971 Jaguar Type E convertible. He was fabricating a 1953 Sedan Delivery, with full custom bodywork: it was a testament to his creativity, skill, and perseverance.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for John will be held at Benner Funeral Services in Fort Erie on Friday, November 7th from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m.
Please join us to raise a glass in John’s honour—a fitting tribute to a man who lived fully, and laughed often- on Saturday, November 8th, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 71 Fort Erie, 4-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice in John’s name.
