Obituary of Hyacinth "Cynthia" Boronell

Hyacinth Virginia Boronell (“Cynthia”)

September 19, 1933 – August 7, 2025

Hyacinth Virginia “Cynthia” Boronell, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in The Garrison Place, Fort Erie, Ontario, surrounded by the love of her family, on August 7, 2025.

Born on September 19, 1933, in Georgetown, Guyana, South America, Cynthia was the beloved daughter of Gladys Johanna Thompson and Leonard Theophilus Thompson.

Cynthia earned her Nursing and Midwifery degree in Guyana, later pursuing an additional Nursing degree in England, United Kingdom, where she specialized in Midwifery. A lifelong learner, she continually advanced her skills through professional development, earning certifications in Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation, Airway and Cardiac Arrest Management, and completing programs such as Newborn in Distress and Nursing Management and Leadership.

Known for her remarkable dedication and skill, Cynthia served as a nurse at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie, Ontario, where she became a trusted and respected figure. Standing proudly at 5’2”, she often reminded others with a smile, “I’m small, but mighty.” She delivered countless babies - so many that no one could keep track - and retired in 1996 after leaving an indelible mark on her colleagues, patients, and community.

Outside of nursing, Cynthia loved music and could sing the lyrics to nearly any song without hesitation. She was quick to laugh, never shy to share her opinion, and always ready to diagnose someone - her “nurse’s hat” never truly came off. She was kind, a gifted mentor, a devoted mother, and a loyal friend.

Cynthia is survived by her daughter, Cherrie Lamb; her son, David Bailey, and his wife, Becca Bailey; her grandchildren, Myron Bailey, Rachel Lamb, and Ashley Lamb; and her siblings, Lillian Thompson, Jean Thompson, Robert Thompson, and Oswald Thompson. She was predeceased by her eldest brother, Neville Thompson.

Lovingly remembered as a shining light in the lives of all who knew her, Cynthia’s life was defined by compassion, dedication, and unwavering faith in God. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of her family, friends, and her extended family at The Garrison Place. She will be remembered not only for the way she lived, but also for the countless lives she touched and the legacy of love she leaves behind.
