Obituary of Thomas Northy Jamieson

It is with great love and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Thomas Northy Jamieson, who died on July 1, 2025, at the age of 80. He spent his final days surrounded by those who loved him.

Born in Niagara Falls Ontario, to Dr. Thomas Alexander Jamieson and Frieda La Plante, Tom was one of six siblings: Elizabeth, David, Wendy, Carolyn, Jennifer and three half-brothers: Mike, Brett, and Wade.

Tom was a criminal lawyer in Ridgeway for over 50 years with the firm Jones, Jamieson, and Redekop. He loved law and being in the courtroom, but it was working with people that he enjoyed the most. From his team at the office, to lawyers and judges, police officers, clients, and their families, Tom had an affinity for people and saw the best in everyone.

Tom and his former wife Brenda were devoted parents who raised their three children—Thomas, Celeste Weber (Jeremy), and David (Lana)—with love, humor, and strong values. Their home was full of life and laughter, surrounded by extended family and close friends, with countless memories made on vacations, road trips, holidays and in everyday life.

He was Poppa to his five grandchildren—Ruby, Tom, Noah, Julia, and Ben—and they meant everything to him. He loved their company—whether it was random trips to the store for candy and toys, walks to the park, ice cream or long afternoons spent together in the backyard by the pool.  He loved fun and always found ways to bring it. He was quietly proud of each of them, and the connection they shared with Poppa ran deep. They’ll carry that with them, always.

Tom spent the last two decades of his life with his partner and person Donna, whose love, humor, and steady care brought out the best in him.  Donna always made sure that Tom’s house was a home and knew how to soften the curmudgeon he liked to portray.  Together they have had three crazy and beloved dogs:  first Poppy and more recently Max & Maggie.  The love, laughter and chaos they brought to Donna and Tom’s life was a source of joy and Donna made sure they were always well loved and looked after.  She was by Dad’s side through it all—especially in the final months and days, when her strength and devotion spoke louder than words ever could.  Our family is so blessed to have Donna a part of it, along with her daughter Carol.

Tom loved books, lively conversation, current events, and meals best shared with others. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of oldies and a lifelong on-again, off-again relationship with country music. Family gatherings often turned into informal music trivia nights, where Dad reigned supreme. He had a big personality, a soft heart, and an irreverent sense of humour that will be sorely missed.  He leaves a big void but a bigger legacy in his family, friends and the people he touched.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Greater Niagara General Hospital, especially the staff on the 3rd floor Post-Operative Unit. Their compassion in caring for Dad—and in supporting us during his final days—meant more than words can express.

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends, in keeping with Tom’s wishes.

P.S.  Sorry Dad, I’m sure you were rolling your eyes as I wrote this.  But this time, we get the final word.

“Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he loved that distinguish one man from another.”
