Obituary of Pamela Jean Yorfido

Yorfido, Pamela (nee Griem)

It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Pamela Jean Yorfido, age 65, on May 27 at 7:45 a.m. at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie, Ontario, surrounded by love.

Born in Gowanda, New York, Pamela was the beloved daughter of Jean Griem and the late Jack Griem. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Pamela shared 40 wonderful years with her husband, James Yorfido, the love of her life and her greatest support. She is survived by her daughter, Ashton Bouhuis (Matthew), whom she loved more than words could express. Her granddaughter Mia was her heart — not only did Mia look like her grandmother, but their bond was the light of Pamela’s life. Pamela was also a loving mother to Matt Griem (Melanie), her son from an earlier relationship with the late Wray Hooper. She was a caring grandmother to Alexander and Elsa, sharing a special bond over cats with Elsa and always enjoying stories about Alexander’s football games.

Pamela is also survived by her mother Jean Griem and her sister Sandy Turner (Michael), who she loved dearly and remained faithfully by her side throughout her life. Pamela was deeply loved by Steven and her “angel pie” Shannen. She also leaves behind her brothers Kenny Griem (Christine), with children David, Derek, and Amy; and Robert Griem (Linda), with son Darren. In addition, she is survived by her brother-in-law Tony Yorfido, and adoring nephews Anthony and Mikey (Rachel).

Pamela had a lifelong love of music and a beautiful voice that touched many. She was once named “Country Girl” by a local radio station, a fitting title for someone who sang in tribute shows as Tammy Wynette and June Carter. Meeting Tammy Wynette’s family in Nashville was one of the great highlights of her life.

Her faith was the cornerstone of everything she did. Pamela loved the Lord deeply — Jesus was her number one. Her treasured cat, Binx, brought her constant comfort and joy and was affectionately known as “her man.”

The family would like to thank the many friends who prayed for Pamela, offering support and love during her journey. A special thank-you to her family doctor, Dr. Che, for his compassionate care, and to Pastor Jeff for his continued support and prayers during this time.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Benner Funeral Services has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pamela’s memory to the SPCA.
