Obituary of Karen Ann Tourigny

April 28, 1946 - May 8, 2025

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Karen Ann Tourigny. Karen passed away peacefully with her family by her side, after a long and courageous battle with COPD, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Linhaven Long Term Care Home.

Predeceased by her loving husband Albert “Big Al” (d. June 2023), her mother Leah Butterson and her brother Ronald Butterson, Karen leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. She is survived by her devoted daughter Holly (Glenn) Augerman, son Danny Tourigny, cherished grandchildren Ryan (Emily), Taylor (Matthew), and Maddy (Mat) and great granddaughter Aubree and great-grand-puppy Miller. She will also be dearly remembered and sadly missed by her extended family including nieces, nephews and many friends including her best friend of 57 years, Jennie-Mae Pare.

Karen was known for her sharp wit, fierce honesty and generous heart and was loved by everyone who knew her. She had an incredible work ethic, continuing to work even after retirement as a security guard until her health deteriorated and she had to hang up her badge. She loved to bake and cook for others and she was especially known for her banana bread, butter tarts and cabbage rolls.

The family would like to thank the incredible March of Dimes staff who provided care to Karen prior to her move to Linhaven Long-Term-Care Home and to the care team at Linhaven for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided in her final weeks. Most of all we want to thank Dr. Scher who was her primary care physician for many years and always went above and beyond to ensure she was well cared for. His genuine concern, compassion and empathy go beyond his role as Doctor and we are forever grateful for all that you do to support your patients and community. You are one of a kind; thank you so very much.

A Celebration of Karen’s life will be held on May 14, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation to be held from 11:00 a.m to 1:00pm at Benner Funeral Home, 1105 Benner Avenue, Fort Erie. Cremation has taken place.

If desired, donations in Karen’s memory may be made to March of Dimes Canada.
