Obituary of Kirk Edward Bremner

KIRK EDWARD BREMNER

June 29, 1945 -  January 24, 2025

Kirk passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a hard-fought battle with cancer on January 24th , at Douglas Memorial Hospital in Fort Erie, at the age of 79.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jean, sons Kirk (Jackie Craig), Kevin (Nicole), Kris (Lori Littleton), Keith (Eric Prentice) and Kyle. He will be fondly missed by his sister Karen Gates and sister-in-law June Jenkins (David) and grandchildren Taylor, Chloe, Keegan, Emma, Addison, Tristan, Ashton and Travis, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant son, George, mother Connie Shaw, father George Bremner and sister-in-law Marlene Puttick.

Kirk began his 60-year profession as a stone setter in Toronto. After he and Jean married, they moved to Fort Erie before settling in Ridgeway, where they raised their five sons. Kirk embarked on a solo career in Buffalo, NY, where he created beautiful jewelry to mark important moments in his clients’ lives, but later teamed up with Tony Sellari, in whom he also found a good friend.

Kirk’s easy-going and kind nature made him a friend to many, and he always enjoyed sharing a beer with friends and family. He relaxed by watching hockey games and cheering for the Leafs and was a lifelong Buffalo Bills fan.

Kirk faced his illness with strength and courage, continuing to enjoy time with Jean and his sons at  week-long cottage retreats and holiday dinners. The family is grateful for the compassionate care Kirk received from Dr. Li at the Walker Family Cancer Centre and palliative care team at the Marotta Family Hospital in St. Catharines. The family is also grateful to Dr. Scher and the palliative care staff at Douglas Memorial.

A celebration to honour Kirk’s life will be held this spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Canadian Blood Services and the Walker Family Cancer Centre.

Arrangements entrusted to Benner Funeral Services, Fort Erie.
