As another school year is set to begin my thoughts are with Jill's family. Jill was an amazing teacher & mentor and although she has left this world her lessons will continue on in all those who were fortunate enough to know her and learn from her.

Jill was someone who made a difference, a rarity: She said what she meant, and did what she said. A great many educators and students are far better off because of it. It was an honour to know Jill as a colleague, leader and friend. She will be missed by many, but will live on as her teachings echo and resonate for years to come. May God bless your family at this time, and may God always hold you close. Thank you for reviving the "kid" in me at a time when I needed it. Will think of you often, and smile.

Dearest Cathy & Fohr&Ferneyhough Family,
I am so very sorry for you all. Jill was a feisty lady full of love and open to sharing her laughter. I am sorry for the struggle that you certainly experienced watching ALS rob her of so much. I imagine her spirit remained strong because that is what always defined her. May she Rest In Peace and may you find comfort in knowing that she made a beautiful difference in the lives of so many.

Sending love to all of you and heartfelt prayers as you say farewell to your precious daughter, sister, aunt and friend.
I was blessed to have learned from Jill as my mentor in Reading Recovery. Years later when she opened the teaching centre at St. Thomas More we were "neighbours". It was wonderful to be able to slip down the hall on the spur of the moment to share some student work and celebrate the writing. Yes, celebrate, because Jill enjoyed, understood and affirmed their growth.
I will always treasure her friendship and your friendship too, Cathy. (Cathy I will teach you the secret RR handshake when we next meet).
Although your hearts are broken, your memories of Jill will be a Blessing to you.
Sincerely,
Debra MacDonald

Auntie Jill was my aunt through marriage. I’ll always cherish the many roadtrips to Welland to visit with with her and Grandma in the early years of knowing Elliot—when we were close by in Montreal. I remember how important it was for me to meet Elliot’s family to get a sense of who he was. Auntie Jill and Grandma were so welcoming, loving and always made me feel like part of the family. They confirmed everything wonderful I could sense about Elliot’s upbringing! I’ll always be grateful for Auntie Jill’s fundamental role in my husband’s life (and later in my own and our son’s). Her humour and spirit will certainly live on. Love to all who are grieving this loss.

My deepest condolences to Jill's family and Cathy,
I had the privilege of working with Jill as a Reading Recovery Teacher. The passion Jill had as a teacher was contagious and I am a better teacher because of her. Jill's humour and kindness, her generosity and knowledge made her the best teacher I have ever had. I think of her often when I work with my students and she will continue to be in my prayers. May God comfort you in this difficult time.

It is with deep sadness that I heard about Jill's passing. We first met when Jill trained as a Reading Recovery Teacher Leader in Toronto. Jill was one of those special people we meet. She was a creative, caring, fun-loving, talented individual with a unique sense of humor!
Jill was a passionate educator who made a difference to so many lives. Many benefited from her creative ability as well. I cherish a beautiful mosaic table that Jill made for me at the end of her training year. It has now taken on a whole new meaning! Our world is a better place because of Jill. May she rest in peace.

I am heartbroken writing this. I wasn't ready for you to go; I wasn't ready to say goodbye. You fought so hard and I am so thankful that you are in peace now. I am so proud of how hard you fought and the courage you had. Thank you for teaching me how to have fun. How to live. How to love. I promise to always keep you in my heart and carry your legacy on. I am so thankful for all the incredible memories that we had together that will carry me through life. When I have kids they will always know who their TT is an I will pass your love for life on to them. You will never be forgotten and you will always be loved. I pray that your journey to heaven was peaceful and beautiful. It's not goodbye, it's see you again soon. I love you so much, TT.

I also had the privilege of working with Jill for a time when she headed the Reading Recovering Program at the CEC. I remember having a conversation with her about how grateful my niece's family was for having had this available for their daughter who was struggling...it was truly a Godsend. Many came and went through our department, but Jill is one of those that stood out in memory. Through this journey, I'm glad our paths had crossed. May the eternal light shine upon your soul.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Jill’s family and friend Cathy. I am so saddened to hear of Jill’s passing. I was privileged to have worked closely with her as a Reading Recovery teacher. Jill was an amazing leader and I learned so much from her. She was more than a colleague, she was a dear friend! I have so many fond memories of good times spent together with her both at work and at her home. She always loved to entertain. We shared a love for dogs. I’ll never forget the time I visited her with my dog. Jill let “Abby” wash her face with kisses!
Her bright smile and laughter will remain with me. I will miss her greatly and will never forget her.
May the love and support of family and friends bring you all comfort as you face the days ahead. Cherish the wonderful memories made over the years and I pray they will bring you peace. Know that your dearly loved Jill will live on in your hearts forever!

To Jill's family and Cathy.
Jill will be deeply missed !
I was fortunate to work closely with Jill for 8 years as one of her Reading Recovery Teachers. These were the best years of my teaching career so far, thanks to her. All the learning and professional growth that happened during these years was incredible and something that I use on a daily basis in my class. Jill made all the learning come alive and I will continue to hear her voice during my guided reading/writing lessons ! She was funny, she was passionate and she was such an advocate for early literacy. Jill was not only a respected colleague but she also became a friend who hosted get togethers at her home (both in PC and Ft. Erie); so many wonderful memories. Thank you Jill. You will not be forgotten.
My deepest sympathy goes to you all. Paola Buri-Peyton

To Jill's family and best friend Cathy. Please accept my deepest condolences. I had the privilege of working with Jill as part of the Program Department team at Niagara Catholic. My teaching practice and understanding of how a child learns to read was largely influenced by Jill's knowledge and expertise in Reading Recovery. Many moments with Jill have come flooding back- sharing her Lemon Chicken & Rice Soup on Souper Friday, learning about her 'breathe'tattoo, listening to her kayaking adventures, and Seinfield. She didn't like when I would insist on a hug and now I am sad that I will have to share them through my prayers. May her soul find peace and comfort as Jesus welcomes her home. May each of you find comfort in your memories of Jill.

My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. Having known Jill for many, many years as a colleague and my neighbour for the last 8 years I will truly miss our chats and teasing each other. Jill always had a beautiful welcoming smile. I know Heaven has gained an Angel today and am sure she is reading a story to someone and possibly even doing a "running record" while listening to the person reading!!!!!!
